Description
The Bosch 1617EVS is an acceptable replacement for the Porter Cable routers used on the Panel Pro 4824 and 5624 as the body diameter is the same as the Porter Cable router
However it needs some modification before use.
We shorten up the power cable.
The lower bearing MUST be changed as the original lasts for about 2 weeks and the grease cooks out. We replace it with a ceramic bearing. There are some challenges even with that. The ceramic bearing ID has a generous radius and the mating surface on the Bosch armature has a diameter that is smaller than the radius of the ceramic bearing that results in a bearing installation that does not sit quite square. We have to take off .030 from the armature and install a special high accuracy washer with square inside corners to get the bearing to sit square. In addition It is easy for the router to accumulate coolant splashed up through the horizontal splash plate on the accessory mount. To counter this we add another plate on the bottom of the router that routes the airflow horizontal and protects the air exit from coolant splash. If you care to make one for an existing router, see the PDF in the images.
Finally we add an adapter that allows the user to use industry standard ER11 collets.
